Brunswick House in Brunswick Village, Tyne and Wear, providing accommodation and personal care to older people, some of whom have nursing needs was rated outstanding for being caring, responsive and well-led following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), 20 & 21 November 2019.
It achieved the score of good for the safe and effective categories.
The CQC report highlighted that everyone they spoke with gave positive feedback about the staff. People's comments included, "Staff treat me well. They do everything for me" and, "They're smashing! I do like staff here."
A relative said, "They'll do anything for us, and they even take care of my emotional well-being as his wife."
An external professional said, "I feel they do go the extra mile."
Staff delivered extremely person-centred care and focused on what was important to people to help achieve their goals. There were multiple examples of people's lives being enriched through outstanding staff support.
One person who was cared for in bed due to pressure damage was supported by staff to visit their spouse who was receiving end of life care in hospital. Specialist transport was organised to facilitate the hospital visits. This demonstrated staff met the person's emotional needs whilst maintaining their physical health needs.
CQC inspectors also highlighted that everyone they spoke to said that the service was extremely well-led.
People, relatives and staff would recommend this service to others. A relative said, "The staff are excellent, the manager is approachable and there have been improvements."
A staff member said, "There is not one member of staff you can't get along with - it is a blessing."
