Doveridgecare home in Colyton, Devon is delighted to have once again been awarded outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.
The Devonshire care home providing accommodation to residents needing nursing and personal car,e was awarded outstanding for effective, caring, responsive and well-led and good for safe.
The CQC inspection took place on 30 May 2019.
The report highlighted that people's physical, mental and social needs were carefully assessed before they moved into the home and a plan of their care needs was drawn up and agreed with them.This enabled staff get to know each person before they moved in, to ensure people felt welcomed.
Staff found out that a person who was moving in loved balloons, so they decorated their room with balloons before they moved in.
This helped the new resident settle in quickly.
Staff at Doveridgewere passionate about treating people with kindness, friendship and respect.
A member of staff said, "'This is the last door', so happiness is the main thing for people as this is the last step of their life.”
“You can't care if you don't care' is also my motto.”
Staff took great care to make sure people received support and care which met their individual needs and were thoughtful and creative in their thinking.
A resident living with dementia, remembered their previous job as a secretary, which they had enjoyed. So, staff set up an office desk in the person's room. They gave the person daily office tasks such as filing.
This gave the resident a sense of purpose and helped them to feel happier and more settled.
Staff praised the provider and management team to the CQC inspectors for the care and support they received.
A member of staff said, "They have given me the confidence to believe in myself. I couldn't wish for any better.”
