Montrose Barn is a care home that provides accommodation and personal care support for up to two adults with learning disabilities.
The vision of Montrose Barn was to promote a service in which people were 'able to realise their potential as equal and active citizens who had as much control over their lives as possible. The team demonstrated this clear vision and a highly positive person-centred culture was reported by CQC inspectors.
Staff had set high standards for themselves and this promoted an exceptionally positive culture which challenged disability perceptions, improved the confidence of people and had very positive impacts on the lives of the people using the service. For example, the exceptional and distinctive way in which a person was supported to receive prosthetic limbs which were suitable for them personally. Supporting a person to improve their motor skills, balance and social skills by introducing them to a new sport.
The service identified that one-person's balance and motor skills might be improved by attending a tennis club. The result has been extremely positive because they had developed the ability to hold the racket and hit the ball. Socially, the club had been encouraging in supporting the person to form relationships externally. This had resulted in the person experiencing events which were extremely personalised and focused on them.
