The Windy Ridge Care Home, Barton-on-Sea, has been awarded outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.

Mills Meadow provides residential and dementia care for adults over the age of 65.

The CQC awarded the care home as outstanding in two out of five categories; caring and well-led and good for safe, effective and responsive following the inspection, 25 June 2019.

Relatives consistently told the CQC that the home was unique, and they were exceptionally happy with the way they and their family members were treated.

One relative said, "Thestaff are absolutely amazing. I can't fault them at all. They are lovely. I was rather he was this far away than anywhere else. When I say cheerio, I know he's going to be looked after when I'm not here. It's perfect. I'm thinking of moving in! "

Another relative commented that, “The staff treat people second to none. The staff are so patient. I'm always made to feel welcome. I feel like part of the family. Other homes are not like this one. I would highly recommend it. I wouldn't mind booking my place!"

There was an exceptionally strong focus on person centred care within a homely environment.

The registered manager Helen Woodward said, "We have all clinical skills in the team but it's not a clinical home. It's a homely home."

The home admitts people who had previously been detained in hospital under The Mental Health Act 1983.

Helen later commented that a resident had been "stuck in a hospital bed for 11 months," as no other care provider would offer them a placement.”

Staff understood people very well and knew how to support their specific mental health needs.
